  my first free e-book

finally I finished my first book...it's a free e-book about six sigma in a nutshell. The book is in Bahasa Indonesia which titled Mengenal Six Sigma Secara Sederhana, and mainly targeted to students to make them not so allergic with statistical/analytical tools.

maybe many of us are quite skeptical about six sigma...I think the main reason is because the buzz and hype surrounding the concept. Or maybe because it is closely related to all the big wheels...those greedy corporations which want to squeeze their resources to be as efficient as possible.

but as a person who actually works in six sigma related job, I found this method is pretty neat. It is about a structured methodology to solve problem in our process (i.e. in any process). It is about using analytical/statistical tools to transform data into information; from information into knowledge.

If we were more knowlegable about our process, then we could have a chance to make a different. Is life not about that?

  google adsense

I decided to put ads by google on my personal website, beranda.net....even though I am not too sure if it really works for me from economical perspective, but I think it's worth too "experiment" how the online ads works. Besides, no need for me to prepare anything but copy & paste the scripts.

One of the downsides is that sometimes ads and pop-ups are disturbing. With my limited skill in HTML and scripting, the disturbance shows blatantly on my site. I will sacrifice my site for the sake of learning...that's my intention when creating beranda.net...so it's ok for now

One other thing that disturbs me so bad is the "anne ahira" ads delivered by google. There are a lot of sites related to the so-called "internet marketing" system...asianbrain.com, disiniadadollar.com, etc... all sites are the sames: they are offering you how to make easy money by "internet marketing"... as I don't agree with the business (well, I am against it)...all I have to do is trying to filter all the URLs to keep my site from posting their ads. I don't know if I could keep up my speed in adding their URLs from the filter list, maybe when I can't stand no more, I willl get rid-off all the ads..and only put ads for humanitarian effforts such as Indonesia HELP and the likes.

If not because the "google factor" I won't think to put the ads. I like Google...I think most of my writings I got from googling (see? google now is a verb!). I think biz magazines and newspapers love it too, just see how the report on Google's IPO. But I don't like Google because of they make a lot of money (If I do, walmart should be on my list)...the reason is because I think Google is cool. Most of all, I like how the founder (Larry Page and Sergei Brin?) set the vision of his company; They obviously set the new standard for running business...

  Control

I have to confess that I am a control freak; and I knew that is bad. And it (usually) ruins my personal relationship.

On the contrary, the feeling to always take control on everything that related to me, fortunately, give me the energy to perform well in my work. The fear to be in out-of-control situation makes me always prepare carefully on every project or work. So far, it works. But I've been thinking of this for a while....Even though this is the way I am working now (and it helps me pay my bills) I do wish that someday I could be more lay back and wash away my obsession for "control". I think I have to learn to be more like Wimar Witoelar, he's so cool...he's the one that I look up now.

But there is something in my life that make me want to scream because of this out-of-control thing. I need to tell you this: I have been living in Riau-Sumatera, Indonesia for these couple months...and for about almost two months we are living in a smoky air because of forests' fire. This is not an accident, but this is a disaster...a regular disaster. Some greedy assholes set fires in the forests to clean the forest into something else (such as palm oil plantation). So, here comes the foggy, smoky, darky dirty airs everyday, morning is the worst. The government stays silent and there are no action from other institutions to improve this situation (there are some news on TVs, that helps me a li'l bit).. But, helllloooooo.... this is not the first time. This kind of stupid thing, no, THIS STUPID THING, occur at least once a year, and will stay for three to six months. What kind of life I am living? Why in the world I am stay here? Am I a moron? (Maybe the answer is "Absolutely").

I hate the feeling that I cannot control this situation. The government should take an action...but I don't think it would happen in near future. What should I do? What things, under my control, could I do?

I don't want to blame or scream at the local government or the local house of reps. They just don't have the ears to listen to people who are living here. Oops...revision: they just don't have the heart to understand people's feeling. Money rules, baby.

Damn!! Feeling out of control ain't easy, buddy...you will agree...you will..you will..you must :D

  Larry Brown & Howard Hughes

No, these two men are not related each other nor my relatives.

The link with me is because of my last week end.

I watched Detroit Pistons beat LA Lakers last Thursday on Star Sport. It's kind of strange to me that Pistons won that easy. I admire how Larry Brown handles his boys; I remembered that I became a fan of Larry Brown when he was with Sixers....I used to a big fan of Iverson, but then I more attracted to Mr. Brown's coolness factor. His wife is one other big plus to him...

I heard a lot about Howard Hughes, but never knew exactly who he is. When I watched "The Aviator" it mostly because I read a lot of hype about the movie after won the Golden Globe awards. The movie is great, DiCaprio play much better than when he played in "Gangs of NY" and certainly better than in "Titanic" or "Romeo and Juliet." As a matter of fact, this is the first time I consider DiCaprio as not one of the pretty-boy kind of dude (I'll let Boyzone, Westlife, Backstreet Boys, Ben Affleck, or Creed's vocalist stay in that group happily). Anyway, back to Hughes...I've just read Hughes story on Wikipedia...seems he's one of the craziest human until now. I agree that only a crazy man could change the world, Hugehs is certainly on the top of the list. From the movie and wikipedia, now I see (Sir) Richard Branson, that crazy Virgin CEO, need to raise his bar a lot of higher to be considered as crazy billionaire.

  interesting stuff to read

recently it's quite hard for me to write and update my website....I started to get busy for my work..so I just read some interesting stuff on internet. Some blogs are pretty cool:
- Bram Cohen's blog (that Bit Torrent dude)
- Ross Blake (that Firefox dude)
- Gizmodo and its kind (by Gawker)

so, I just saved them in my bookmarks...interestingly, Bram Cohen's blog got a lot of attentions by other IT geeks because of his arrogant style despite the fact of he's really a sharp guy (the stuff he wrote is alright, though)

I think I need to write again....beranda.net needs some new stuffs
